The Sons of Jude is the first novel of a new series by Brandt Dodson dealing with Chicago’s law enforcement. We are drawn into their lives & those around them. We follow the consequences of their choices and actions, whether good or bad. In this book, detectives Frank Campello and Andy Polanski and reporter Christy Lee form a very unlikely team against some very powerful foes. The hardest part is that they don’t know who to trust and that uncertainty also applies to each other!
The back of the book states that Dodson comes from a long line of police officers. I know that authors can and should do a lot of research to make sure things line up in their story – with time periods, jobs, locations, etc. However, I was even more interested in this book because of Dodson’s background. If you have lived in a law enforcement family, I believe there’s a greater chance you’ll be able to write even more authentically about reality of the job and lives of those involved.
I really enjoyed this crime thriller novel. It was easy to get into the story and the characters. It was a story that continued to hold my attention and had some good twists. The Sons of Jude is now on my law enforcement husband’s reading list, and I’m looking forward to hearing his thoughts! However, I’m sure we’ll be buying the next book in the series, Chicago Knights, soon!
Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from Kregel Publications in exchange for a fair and honest review.
