My Pop-Up Bible Stories
by Juliet David
illustrated by Daniel Howard
My Pop-Up Bible Stories is a cute and colorful pop-up book. It has scenes from five Bible stories – ranging from the Old Testament account of “Daniel and the lions” to the New Testament description of “Jesus calming the storm”. However, it is not realistic to the race and heritage of the people, whether Egyptians or Israelites. (On a side note: This seems to be a sad norm for children’s Bibles. I’m not sure why, because it would seem very easy to fix.) There is a very brief summary of the story on each page. Also, a little more of the narrative would have been preferred.
My kids loved it, but accidentally tore the Good Shepard from his story in less than 30 minutes of handling it. Honestly I’m not a huge fan of pop-up books, but for practical reasons – they cost more and don’t survive that long. They can be quite extraordinary and we have five of them, but only because they are gifts from a favorite uncle! They are suppose to be for kids, like this one is made especially for 3 to 6 year olds. However, these books are too easily torn up by little hands.
So if you are a fan of children’s pop-up books, enjoy because it’s a fun book! However, I have to say that it’s not quite my cup of tea!
