“The Greatest Interpretation of the 23rd Psalm”
My mom emailed this to me. So, I decided that you might enjoy it too!…
___________________________________________________________
In his beautiful book, “I Shall Not Want,” Robert Ketchum tells of a Sunday
School teacher who asked her group of children if anyone could quote the
entire 23rd Psalm. A golden-haired, four-and-a-half-year-old girl was among
those who raised their hands. A bit skeptical, the teacher asked if she
could really quote the entire psalm.
The little girl came to the front of the room, faced the class, made a perky
little bow, and said,
“The Lord is my shepherd, that’s all I want.”
She bowed again and went and sat down.
That may well be the greatest interpretation of the 23rd Psalm ever heard.

Quote from E. Stanley Jones
A Prayer for the Journey
O Christ, do not give me tasks equal to my powers, but give me powers equal to my task, for I want to be stretched by things too great for me. I want to grow through the greatness of my tasks, but I shall need your help for the growing.

The Lord Is My Pace Setter
The Lord is my pace setter…I shall not rush
He makes me stop for quiet intervals
He provides me with images of stillness which restore my serenity
He leads me in the way of efficiency through calmness of mind and his guidance is peace
Even though I have a great many things to accomplish each day, I will not fret, for his presence is here
His timelessness, his all importance will keep me in balance
He prepares refreshment and renewal in the midst of my activity by anointing my mind with his oils of tranquility
My cup of joyous energy overflows
Truly harmony and effectiveness shall be the fruits of my hours for I shall walk in the Pace of my Lord and dwell in his house for ever.
(A version of the Twenty-Third Psalm from Japan)

Interesting Quote from Sex in the City
“Later that night I got to thinking about safe sex. Odd how only when our physical life is at risk do we follow certain guidelines to protect ourselves. But what about our emotional lives? Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a little pamphlet to warn us what unsafe behavior might be high risk to ourselves or our relationships. And even if you take all the precautions and emotionally try to protect yourselves… When you crawl in bed with someone, is sex ever safe?“ (from Sarah Jessica Parker’s character)

I was flipping through channels after I noticed there weren’t any movies on I wanted to see. (I know, this turning on the TV when Matt is working and the girls are in bed can be a bad habit. I can always tell if I’m really interested in the book I’m reading by what I choose to do!!) Anyway, I dropped in on this little monologue and was like, “Wow! What honest insight from such a slutty show!” And, since I have a DVR I was able to rewind, pause, rewind, pause, … until I got the quote to share with you all.

Yes, Miss Sex in the City, your emotional health is one more reason to not share your body in every dating relationship, but to wait until you get married!!

Double Standard from South Park’s Isaac Hayes
Isaac Hayes quit the show after South Park took aim at Scientology. “Religious beliefs are sacred to people, and at all times should be respected and honored. As a civil rights activist for the past 40 years, I cannot support a show that disrespects those beliefs and practices. There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs begin.”
Matt Stone, the co-creator of South Park, said, “This is 100 percent having to do with his faith of Scientology. He has no problem – and he’s cashed plenty of checks – with our show making fun of Christians. … He wants a different standard for religions other than his own, and to me, that is where intolerance and bigotry begin.”

Quote from Kent Hughes
“Our lives are like photographic plates, and prayer is like a time exposure to God. As we expose ourselves to God for a half hour, an hour, perhaps two hours a day, his image is imprinted more and more upon us. More and more we absorb the image of his character, his love, his wisdom, his way of dealing with life and people.” Kent Hughes
